Valentine's Inspiration

I have put together some looks to inspire your Valentine's Day attire.  I was inspired by colors other than the traditional Valentine's Day red and hope you like what I've put together for you.  But, of course, I had to include a red outfit too!

I Believe In Pink

Je T'aime
Sugar Plum
Ooh Laa laa

For the Love of Red

I hope these help to inspire you!  I had such fun putting them together.  You can find any of these items by clicking on their links and it will take you to my Polyvore page.  And, while you're there, if you haven't done so already, why not follow me.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits
I love bright colors and this lime green top is so fun to wear.  I paired it with some charcoal gray slacks and lime green sandals, added an orange Belle Blossom to my hair and called it good.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits
I picked this navy blue wrap dress up at a warehouse sell about 5 years ago.  It is a nice weight cotton so its very comfortable to wear.  I love the pleated bottom.  I paired it with some mustard yellow wedges that I have gotten a lot of wear out of this summer.  Oh, and in case you were wondering, this is my freshly blow dried, unstyled hair.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits
I'm not sure I really like this top.  I've had it for years and I adore the print, but the tie belt seems to stretch out as the day goes on.  Maybe if I used a different belt with it, I might like it better.  I added a khaki colored camisole underneath and paired it with black slacks and my little red flats.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits
I have had this dress for ages.  You can't really tell from the picture but the top is lacy.  Its made of a soft jersey fabric which makes it a dream to wear.  I added a pink camisole underneath and paired it with these fun, beaded wedges.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits
This was a fun, warm weather outfit.  These mint green capris are comfortable but are lint magnets.  Not good when you have a cat and a dog and toddlers running around.  I've paired it with a sleeveless top that is made of a gauzy material, great for those hot days, and the little leather sandals I bought from Walmart earlier in the year.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits

I love casual Friday's, don't you?  Sometimes, if I know I will be having to do something that is messy, like moving furniture, or setting up a computer, I will dress even more casual.  This was just such a day.  I threw on a t-shirt and my cropped jeans, slipped on some flats and put my hair in pigtails to keep it out of my face.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits

This dress is so comfortable.  It is made from a jersey so it is soft and stretchy.  I've had it for several years and it always gets a lot of wear in the summer time.  I can't remember for sure where I got it, thats how long Ive had it.  The shoes came from Walmart many years ago, too.  And I threw my hair up into a bandana.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits

This cute little top came from Kohl's a couple of years ago and its no longer available.  Ive paired it with some black slacks and my ballet flats.  My hair here has just been blow dried and pinned back with a couple of bobby pins.  So, overall, its a very simple look.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits

This top is one of my favorites.  It looks like two separate pieces, but it is made together.  Its the details of the under shirt that I love so much, it is a sheer chiffon material with delicate pleats in the front and the sleeves remind me of a 30s style.  I've paired it with some black slacks and my little slip on shoes from Walmart.  I'm telling ya, I get lots of wear out of those cheap shoes!

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits

I love polka dots and was so tickled when I found this lovely polka dotted dress in a lovely gray shade.  It was one of the dresses that I got for the wedding I talked about here.  The shoes I got on this trip.  My hair accessory I have had forever, can't remember where I got it but probably from Walmart.  The turquoise bracelet I got about 10 years ago as a gift from a co-worker for keeping his dog while he and his family went on vacation.  I thought that was so very thoughtful of them and was really a win/win for me.  I got to spend a week with a cute little doggy plus got amazing jewelry in the deal.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits

I can't say which of these are older, my dress or my boots.  The dress I have had for about 15 or so years now.  It came from a Liz Claiborne outlet store and it is truly one of my all time favorite dresses.  I love the length, love that its a wrap dress, and the fabric is such a breezy, silky rayon.  The boots I've had at least that long, if not longer.  I hardly ever wear them though, not sure why.  They are very comfortable.  I guess I'm just not a cowboy boot kind of gal but I can't let them go.  Still hanging on to them because you never know when the mood to cowgirl it up will strike.  The rose in my hair is from Belle Blossoms and I love it.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits

This skirt is so cute.  It has a corseted waist which helps with the tummy bulge.  I have had it for several years now and I think I picked it up at JCPenney's.  The peasant top came from My Baby Jo's I got it over a year ago when I was ordering a dress for my niece for her 18th birthday.  The dress is no longer available but the top still is.  The Tommy Hilfiger shoes you have seen before, I talked about them here.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfits

This peasant top is very comfortable.  Its made with a kind of gauzy type material which makes it very cool to wear in the heat of summer.  I can't remember where I got it but I think it was from a discount store.  The bracelet is part of a set that I got from Premiere Designs.  The shoes you have seen before because I wear them quite often, they came from Walmart and were under $10.  This skirt is vintage and I got it from this etsy seller.  I spotted a matching top on etsy several months ago but couldn't decide if I should get it or not and when I went back to it, it had already sold.  That is all the time happening to me.  The top had a label in it but my skirt doesn't so I am curious if they were made by the same company.  The label in the top was "Paradise Hawaii" Made in Honolulu

Wearing Vintage Vogue V8728
You may remember this dress from here, it is one that I made.  The bangles I picked up at the local antiques store, the shoes I have had for probably 15 years.  They need a good cleaning but I'm not sure how to go about doing that since they are macrame.  Anybody have any suggestions?

Daily Outfits
Apparently I forgot to iron this before I wore it.  Maybe wrinkles can be counted as an accessory. lol. I picked this skirt up at a thrift store.  I like the length, its so hard to find longer skirts these days.  This top I have had for a couple years now, I love the color and the lacy neckline.  I think it came from Dress Barn.  The shoes are ancient and came from a garage sale.

Daily Outfits
The peacock blue of this blouse is one of my favorites.  I picked it up at JCPenney's more than 5 years ago.  The pants you have seen before and I posted about these shoes here.

Daily Outfits
This is my PUG dress that I blogged about here.  I also got these shoes there.  They are a little uncomfortable but I think I actually need about a half size larger.  The cardigan is thrifted.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfit

Here are some more of my daily outfits.  This beautiful dress was thrifted, the cardigan I can't really remember where I got it and the shoes you've seen on here a lot, and that's because I love them and wear them with everything.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfit

You've also seen these pants and shoes before.  The sweater I have had for many years.  I picked it up at a thrift store and I love it because it is so soft.  I don't wear it all that often, though, not sure why.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfit

I love this flower from Belle Blossoms, it's one of my favorites.  These pants I picked up at a sell from a local shipping factory.  They usually have a sell a couple times a year of their excess inventory, most of their clothing goes to places like JCPenney and I think these pants are Worthington brand.  I got them brand spanking new for $5.  It's hard to see the design in the top but its a lovely shade of pale blue and gray and has an adorable ruffle down the front.

Retro Gran's Daily Outfit

This is such a comfortable dress, its like a soft t-shirt material and you just slip it on.  I got it ages ago, I'm talking close to 10 years ago, and I still love it.  You can't see in the photo but I have added an aqua tank top underneath for more modesty.

Retro Gran Daily Outfits

It's been a while since I shared my daily outfits on here, but if you follow me on Instagram you will have seen these before and you've seen this entire ensemble on here before, just styled differently.  By the way, I absolutely love these Aigner spectator pumps, they are so comfortable to wear.

Retro Gran Daily Outfits

Can you believe this cute little dress came from Walmart?!  I've had it for several years now so I'm not sure if it's still available.  It has a low cut front so I added a little camisole and my macrame oxfords, threw a flower in my hair and that was it.

Retro Gran Daily Outfits

This is my Trashy Diva dress that I blogged about here.  The only difference in how I styled it this time is the shoes.  I'm wearing my Keds with it which made it a little more casual.  My beautiful rose hair clip is from Belle Blossoms.

Retro Gran Daily Outfits

Here we have a very casual Friday outfit.  These cropped jeans from Kohls are great because you can cuff them up a few times to make them shorter or wear them down like I have here.  I've added a very simple tee that I picked up for little of nothing at Walmart as well as these cute bejeweled flip flops.

Hell Bunny Flamingos

*Outfit Details*
Camisole - Walmart
Cardigan - JCPenney
Skirt - JBR Clothing
Shoes - Shoe Show
Necklace - Given to me by my Mom
Earrings - I can't remember

Here's a few snapshots I took on my phone because I wanted to share this cute skirt with you guys.  It is the Flamingo Skirt by Hell Bunny and I purchased it at JBR Clothing.  This was the first time I have ever ordered anything from JBR's and I must say their shipping is incredibly fast.  I think I actually received the skirt two days after I placed my order.

I ordered according to my measurements but when I received the skirt, I could not even get it buttoned around my waist.  So I exchanged it with no problems except that the next size up was out of stock so I went up even further to the next size and I'm glad I did because it actually fit.  This is my first item of Hell Bunny's so I'm not sure if all of their clothing is miss-sized like this or if it's just this skirt.  As far as quality, it is nicely made of cotton and I adore the flamingo tropical print.

I paired it with a pale pink camisole that is so pale that it hardly even shows in these photos.  I picked it up at Walmart for about $4 and is reversible with a scoop neck on one side and a v-neck on the other.  I thought that was a great option and they had tons of other colors.  I may have to go back and get some more.

Then I threw on this turquoise cardigan that I've had for ages and a pair of turquoise sandals.  The pink beaded necklace is a hand me down from my Mom.

So, have any of you ladies ever bought a Hell Bunny item and if so, how did it fit?  I am thinking that I will eventually order more of their products but I would like to be aware of how they fit before I do.

What To Wear To A Wedding

Since June is the most popular wedding month, I thought many of you, like myself, may be attending such festivities and looking for something to wear.  Its always hard for me to decide what to wear, how formal will it be, should I avoid certain colors such as white, etc.  So I put together a nice selection of vintage or vintage inspired dresses that would be appropriate for a guest to wear.

Among these beauties are some of my favorites, some are true vintage and some are not, but have a vintage feel to them.  I hope you enjoy them and maybe they will inspire your wedding guest wardrobe choices.

This lovely 1950s dress is from Custard Heart Vintage and has a 34" bust 26" waist.

Rococo Vintage 1960s pink floral dress
This is a gorgeous 1960s dress from Rococo Vintage.
You will have to be tiny to wear this dress as it has a 32" bust and 24" waist.
4 Birds Vintage 1960s polka dot dress
I love polka dots and this orange hued beauty captured my heart.
It is from 4 Birds Vintage and has  a 36" bust 26" waist.

Pearl Snow Petal Dress at Modcloth.com
I adore the pearls on the shoulders and top of this dress from Modcloth.
Emily and Fin dress at Modcloth.com

Are you attending a wedding in June?  Or perhaps later in the summer?  I hope these beauties help inspire your wedding attire.

Trashy Diva Trixie Dress | Retro Gran

This was our second day visiting Brookgreen Gardens, if you missed what I wore on our first trip there, you can see it here.

The Mister is a huge Sci-Fi fan and since it was his birthday that we were celebrating, I chose the adorable rocket print version of the Trashy Diva Trixie dress, but, I believe this print has since sold out on that style.

I ordered the same size in this dress as I did the Annette dress but the fit was entirely different.  I probably could have sized down a size with this dress and I'm guessing that is due to the elastic sides.

The dress itself is very well made of a slightly stretchy cotton material.  It is not lined and the skirt is not as full, more of a true circle skirt with no gathers.  Even though you are not really able to see it in these photographs, the top has a cross-over front and has sort of an inner bra setup to provide support along with the straps that tie behind the neck.

The day before these photos were taken, we spent a couple of hours playing with our grandson on the beach and it just so happened I forgot to apply any sunscreen to myself, the results of which is this terrible sunburn you see here.  Over the last few years I have developed a sun allergy.  Its not to the point where I can't be in the sun at all, but when I am out for any period of time across a couple consecutive days, I will break out in a horrible, itchy rash.  I have found, though, that if I get out a few minutes a day and slowly build up a tan, it doesn't happen as bad.  And, yes, I know the dangers of the sun but I am one of those stubborn women who enjoys sporting a suntan in the summer.

But, I digress........ Because of the sunburn, I threw on this little butter yellow cardigan to try to shield my already burnt shoulders from acquiring any more sun.  I wore the same, comfortable walking shoes as before and threw a bandana in my hair, which had actually been set into a dry pincurl set the night before, but the humidity pulled the curl right out resulting in, you guessed it, frizz.

Overall I like this dress, but I think if I get this style again, I will size down.
